SUMMARY:Total Solar Eclipse
DESCRIPTION:Vermont will be experiencing a solar eclipse on April 8\, 2024 and Mad River Glen is in the path of totality. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun\, thereby obscuring the view of the Sun from a small part of the Earth\, either totally or partially. A total eclipse\, is when the Sun gets completely obscured by the Moon. During a total eclipse\, the sky suddenly darkens and the Sun’s corona will be revealed. This is easily the most beautiful sight you will ever see in the sky! Be sure to use solar eclipse glasses while the Sun is not fully eclipsed. This solar eclipse has a southern terminus of (about) Barre\, but even those south of Barre will be looking at about 95% blackout. \nMad River Glen Solar Eclipse FAQ: \nLive music: will be provided by Bigfoot County who will play a set from 2:30 – 3:30 then take a break and come back for a second set between 4:30 – 5:30. \nIn the path of totality: Yes \nPercentage of totality: 100% \nDuration: 2h 23m 04.5s \nDuration of totality: 01:56.6s \nLifts: The Single and Sunnyside Double will run from 10-5pm. We will suspend loading at ~3pm to ~3:45pm. Following the total eclipse\, and once it has been deemed safe to operate again we will begin loading the lifts until last chair at 5pm. \nTicketing: A limited number of lift tickets are for sale online only until 04.07. Shareholders will be able to walk up to window to purchase 2 tickets on Monday. NO regular walk up ticket sales on Monday\, April 8th.   \nUphill Travel: Uphill travel will be closed on Sunday\, April 7th at 4pm through Monday April 8th at 6pm. No uphill travel during those hours.  \nStark’s Nest: No overnighting allowed in Starks Nest or anywhere on mountain Sunday night.  \nParking: No overnight parking Sunday\, April 7th. No parking on private roads. Parking on Monday\, April 8th for passholders\, shareholders\, ticketholders only. No other parking allowed. Carpooling highly recommended.  \nDepartment Operations: \n\nTicket Office: 9:30-3pm\nGeneral Store: 9:30-5:30\nRentals: 9:30-5:30\nSki School & Cricket Club: Closed\nBasebox: 9:30-5:30\, Pub normal hours\n\nALL SERVICES AND DEPARTMENTS WILL SUSPEND OPERATIONS FROM 3:15-3:45 TO WATCH THE ECLIPSE. \nAdditional info and a video of projected sun cover can be found here: https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/in/@5242511?iso=20240408

SUMMARY:A 75 Year Fellowship of Skiing
DESCRIPTION:Rick Moulton Productions and Stark Mountain Foundation present the film\, Mad River Glen\, A 75-Year Fellowship of Skiers at the Savoy Theater in Montpelier\, VT on Sunday\, April 7th at 6:00 pm.  \nThis new short documentary celebrates the 75th season of the Mad River Glen Cooperative ski area in Fayston\, Vermont. In 1988\, filmmaker Rick Moulton released his first short film about the ski area\, “Spirit of a Classic.” His new film focuses on the most recent 35 years of Mad River Glen’s history using new interviews and archival footage and taking a deeper look at what makes the ski area such a unique place.  \nMad River Glen was founded in 1949 by Roland Palmedo and then sold by Betsy Pratt in 1995 to a group of cooperative skiers who intended to keep the ski area away from corporate investors. Her forward-thinking decision has kept Mad River Glen’s ownership in the hands of the people who love it. The cooperative\, with the support of Stark Mountain Foundation\, has preserved the rustic\, laid-back character\, low skier density\, natural terrain\, and friendly atmosphere that gives the ski area its charm.  \nThis 85-minute showing at the Savoy Theater in Montpelier will include a short film by Stark Mountain Foundation (the sponsor) and the 1988 film Spirit of a Classic. Burlington filmmaker Rick Moulton will introduce and be available to answer audience questions after the three short films.  \nTickets are $10 for adults\, $7 for seniors\, students\, members\, and veterans\, and children 12 and under are free.

SUMMARY:"Advice for Girls" presented by Eastern Freeride
DESCRIPTION:Join us on the 3rd floor of the Basebox on Saturday evening to watch “Advice for Girls” a first-of-its-kind ski film featuring an entirely womxn-identifying cast and production crew. When we say all women\, we mean all women. \nUp-and-coming skier Addy Jacobsend knew that it was time to move forward from the “one woman is enough” mindset. She dreamt of the supportive words she wished she’d heard\, penning advice to her younger self. The desire to share those words with as many women as possible grew from a journal entry into the Advice for Girls film. \nJacobsend hopes that the film’s advice from three generations of women in skiing will remind women and girls of all ages that they are worthy of success\, allowed to take up space\, and are extremely valuable to the ski industry. \nAdvice for Girls will begin by setting the scene with an inspirational message. It will then dive into the stories of our pioneers\, role models\, and mentors. Each athlete will be given the opportunity to talk about the good\, bad\, and ugly parts of their experiences in the ski industry. \nThe following segments will showcase the power of mentorship and friendship before the film moves on to discuss the current state of the sport. These segments will showcase up-and-coming athletes and all that they are doing to continue the work of the pioneers. \nThe final segment of the film will introduce young (8-16-year-old) skiers to the audience. These young athletes will represent the next generation and the collective future of female skiers. \nThe film will wrap up by bringing athletes of all ages together to showcase our bond across generations and our bright future.
