Candidate Bio
Mad River Glen is an anomaly in the ski world and the world of winter recreation. I want to preserve and protect it in the most sustainable way for future generations. I believe in continuity on the board and I believe my long history here at MRG is an asset on the board. As I am currently a Trustee on the board, I am seeking re-election for my final term. I want to continue the important work of this board and I thank you for your voting consideration.
Please give us a short statement as to why you are running for the Co-Op Board:
Mad River Glen is an anomaly in the ski world and winter recreation. I want to preserve and protect it in the most sustainable way. We love, love, love it here. The last 2 years of the pandemic have been hard on all of us but the one place that endures for friendship and conviviality is Mad River Glen. We are happy to know that all who use the mountain, all seasons, feel a sense of safety and a spirit of community.
As I am currently a member of the board and seeking re-election for my final term, I want to continue the work of this current board. I was a huge supporter in the POP campaign to raise contributions for necessary building renovations and essential infrastructure work on the mountain. It was a pleasure watching MRG management working with shareholders getting the job done. I function on the board as a Trustee and on the Facilities Committee. I believe my contributions are and have been appreciated.
The Preservation Campaign, POP, did an amazing job working tirelessly to achieve their goals. I worked with the POP committee, (‘Preserve Our Paradise’) during all phases, hosting meetings, identification of and solicitation of potential donors. Most importantly, as a family, we are fully committed donors.
We want all of our future generations to enjoy MRG for years to come.
Why are you passionate about Mad River Glen and the Co-Op?
We are long-time MRG skiers and are active in the MRG community. My husband Al Pierce joined the Mad River ski patrol in the early 1960s, we married and purchased a home here at the mountain. We’ve raised and taught many youngsters to ski, family and friends who love MRG. Our son John Pierce is currently Director of Racing at a ski area near his home in NJ. My granddaughter Annaka is a U16 racer and, if she doesn’t DSQ, she usually winds up in the top skiers of her class. Five (5) members of the Pierce family are Shareholders.
What skills and experiences do you bring from your non-skiing life that would be an asset to the board?
Before retiring I spent many years in business focusing on contract interpretation, public legal issues, parliament procedure and organizational development.
What identities and/or life experiences do you have that you think will bring greater diversity and unique perspectives to the Board?
a)We (as a family) have an experiential background in passive energy conservation. I would like to see MRG expand solar energy opportunities. b)I believe it is time to explore more year-round and summer activities for young people. c)The exuberant response to summer suppers at General Stark Pub is a testament to how folks feel about gathering with their friends at Mad River.
