Kids love stories and they love to ski too. The only thing better is to combine the two. The Stark Mountain Foundation and Mad River Glen will be doing just that as they host their 3rd StorySki Event on Saturday, February 20, 2021. The StorySki itself will be in place at Mad River Glen from February 13 through the 28th, 2021, and can be enjoyed by all ages.
“Once Upon a Winter Day” by Liza Woodruff.
A boy learns that nature is full of stories to tell when he finds and follows a mouse’s tracks in a wintery wood.
Milo wants a story, but his mom is too busy to entertain him. Instead, she encourages him to go out and play in the snow. At first, Milo is disappointed – he doesn’t want to play outside, he wants a story.
But when he starts to follow a trail of mouse-prints, he discovers signs of activity all around, prompting him to ask, “What happened here?” Before long, he’s using his imagination — depicted in lush wordless spreads that capture the vividness of Milo’s fantasies — to fill in the gaps. By the time Milo comes home, he’s the one with stories to tell.
The Stark Mountain Foundation will be sponsoring the 3rd Annual StorySki at Mad River Glen Ski Area on Saturday, February 20th, 2021, from 10:30 to 2:30. New this year, there will be a raffle coinciding with the StorySki.
Participants are encouraged to pre-register for the event by clicking here!
The event is free, but a lift ticket is required. Check-in begins at 10:30 AM at the Kent Thomas Nature Center.
The StorySki is open to skiers age 3 to 9 and will take place on Ben’s Glade, beginning at the Kent Thomas Nature Center. The StorySki panels will be in place at Mad River Glen from February 13 through February 28 and can be enjoyed by all ages.
The StorySki is based on the idea of the StoryWalk, a project that originated in Montpelier at the Kellogg-Hubbard Library and has spread throughout the world. Laminated pages from a children’s book are installed along an outdoor path. As you stroll down the trail, you’re directed to the next page in the story. It was created as a way for children to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time.
The StorySki will feature “Once Upon a Winter Day” a picture book by Liza Woodruff and published by Holiday House. Learn more about Liza Woodruff at www.lizawoodruff.com. This year the Stark Mountain Foundation will be holding a raffle in conjunction with the StorySki. Prizes are:
