The Hill Climb begins on Green & Gold Weekend - at 10AM on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the MRG Basebox. Registration starts at 9:00AM and costs $25, all of which is tax deductible and will be used to support the SMF's pledge to perpetually endow the maintenance of the section of the Long Trail between Stark's Nest and the App Gap. Competitors run 2,000 vertical feet from the base of Mad River’s Single to the top of General Stark Mountain. Any route up is OK, but strategy is every bit as important as strength. There are awards for various ages for men and women. Dave Dunham owns the men’s record of 23:51:05 while Harriet Shea is the women’s record holder at 30:09. For more information about the run visit
If you are interested in supporting the Long Trail maintenance pledge, but don't wish to run the race, donations will be accepted during the registration period, can be mailed to the SMF at P.O. Box 1221, Waitsfield VT 05673, or posted online with credit cards at
DUATHLETS can also participate in the 9th Annual Allen Clark Memorial Hill Climb Bike Race on Sunday, October 3 at 10 AM. This race covers a 6.2 mile course from the intersection of Routes 100 and 17 to the top of Appalachian Gap. For more information about the Allen Clark Hill Climb visit
