Post Paula Livingston
Friends of Paula Livingston are reaching out to everyone that they know who has ties to the Valley and to Mad River.

I don't know if you remember Guy Livingston, a gnome like man who worked at the top of the single for many, many years. Guy was a local farmer but a very interesting person. For example, he also owned and flew his own plane.

Guy's daughter, Paula Livingston, is one of the mainstays of the Mad River Valley Ambulance Service. She is a well educated person but has chosen to live a simple life. She works as a caregiver in a half-way house in Waterbury. She volunteers with the ambulance as a crew-chief which requires an advanced level of training and is the person in charge of a call. She gives countless hours to the ambulance in this capacity. Even though she works night shifts in Waterbury, she still signs up for day shifts on the ambulance and even more important, is always there when additional resources are needed for example, there are multiple calls going on at the same time (we run three ambulances). She has made many calls at Mad River when an ambulance is needed and is well known to and respected by the ski patrol.

Paula was in a serious auto accident four weeks ago. She will be coming home in a week or two but will be in a wheel chair. A group of Paula's friends have gotten together to make her house wheelchair accessible (doorways, bathrooms, ramps, plumbing, heat (she heats with wood), etc. However, as they got in to the project, they realized that a lot more is needed than we anticipated: a new roof, new sheet rock, getting rid of mold, bathroom fixtures, rot in the walls and floors, getting rid of carpet, gas heater etc. Needless to say, she does not have the resources to do this on her own.

Ambulance members, church members from Warren and Waitsfield and Valley residents have already put in many hours working on her house. But financial help is needed if they are to make this key step in Paula's recovery happen. They need to raise $20,000 to $25,000 and this needs to be done in a Valley that has already given so much in the aftermath of Irene.

Her friends are hoping that you can help them with a contribution. They know that this is a lot to ask from people who may not know Paula, but she has given so much to the community including the Mad River community when its members are in need. And the link with her dad at Mad River.

And, I am told that she is always one of the most positive and relaxed people, even when everything is raining down around the ambulance personnel on call.

Their sponsoring organization is Amurtel, an international 501 (C)-3 organization (run by local residnet Joni Zweig) that is dedicated to helping women and children become self-sufficient. They operate in over 80 countries around the world. Their website is

"The mission of AMURTEL is to alleviate suffering and to provide immediate and long term relief to women and children in need, in a manner that will improve their overall quality of life. "

A check can be made payable to Amurtel, note on it it is for Paula and send it to:

PO Box 232
Warren, VT 05674

Another alternative is to give online. They have a Paypal account. See

All the appropriate documentation for the IRS will come from Amurtel.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact Geordie Hall at or 802-793-5316

And please bring it to the attention of any friends who might be interested. At the bottom of the donation page, you can share it with friends on Facebook.

Thank you for considering this.
