Telemark Festival Celebrates 35th Anniversary

March 13th & 14th, 2010
at Mad River Glen

The North American Telemark Festival, celebrating its 34th anniversary this season, is the world’s oldest and largest gathering of Telemark skiers. Historically as many as 1,400 “pinheads” descend upon the slopes of Mad River Glen during the annual, weekend-long celebration.

“The Tele-fest is always one of our biggest weekends of the year,” says Mad River Glen President, Jamey Wimble. “Mad River is the ‘ Mecca ’ for Telemarkers in New England and the festival really helps bring this to the public’s attention.”

During the weekend Telemarkers are treated to clinics ranging from beginner to radical terrain skills. All the major Telemark equipment manufacturers are on hand to give skiers the opportunity to demo all the latest skis, boots, and other equipment. There are various competitions including the World Championship Berserkebeiner Race and the World Championship Bump Buffet. Saturday’s après-ski highlight is the infamous Tele-Dance Party, and the final event of the weekend is a world record attempt group Telemark turn.
