Stark Mountain Foundation

With your generous support, Stark Mountain Foundation, (SMF) provides Mad River Glen with grants for lifts, equipment, trail work, snowmaking, building renovations, historic preservation, and more. During its more than 20 years, SMF has provided nearly eight million dollars to help ensure that MRG continues to be a place of particular magic to be enjoyed and preserved for future generations.

In addition, Stark Mountain Foundation’s goal is to protect the wildlife and ecosystem of Stark Mountain, the home of Mad River Glen. To this end, SMF supports the Kent Thomas Nature Center as well as a variety of educational programs that raise awareness about the myriad of plants, birds, and animals that live on Stark Mountain. In 2023 SMF will support a wildlife and plant inventory to learn more about what should be done to protect the area.

To foster a passion for skiing and outdoor recreation, SMF sponsors the Friday afternoon Skiing for Scholars program for students in the Harwood and Addison Union school districts. SMF also provides lessons, lift privileges, lunches, and gear for recipients of its Children’s Ski Scholarship program. SMF supports the ongoing maintenance of the Long Trail and the Stark’s Nest shelter located on the crest of the Green Mountains known as the Monroe Skyline. To learn more and to support the mission of Stark Mountain Foundation please visit starkmountain.org.
