The Mountain

  • The Single Chair is Mad River Glen’s icon
  • Originally built in 1948 and historically restored in 2007
  • It is the only Single Chair in the lower 48 states and one of only two in North America (the other one is at Mount Eyak in Cordova,  Alaska)
  • It is the fastest fixed grip lift in North America at 600’/minute with a ride time of 9 1/2 minutes (Really!)
  • 53 Marked Trails (20% novice, 35% intermediate, 45% expert)
  • 115 acres of trails, plus 800 acres of tree skiing access
  • 15% Snowmaking Coverage  – (All below 2200’ elevation. Basically the high traffic, low elevation terrain on the main mountain and top to bottom on the Practice Slope lift)
  • Grooming Capabilities – Despite rumors to the contrary 24 of our novice and intermediate trails are groomed regularly as snow conditions allow. The expert terrain is generally left to the whims of Mother Nature

  • Average Ski Season Length: 113 days, mid-December to mid-April

  • Founded in December 1995
  • America’s only cooperatively owned ski area
  • 2200 shares owned by approximately 1,800 individual shareholders
  • Shareholders represent approximately 35-40% of the mountains revenues meaning that non-shareholders are critical to Mad River Glen’s sustainability.
