Children ages 4 to 12 who are learning to ski for the first time.

This program is for children who have never skied before or need a refresher on fundamental skills. This program has a small instructor/student ratio (usually 1:4) so your child can get the attention they need to be “mountain ready” as quickly as possible. We do not take kids up the mountain until they can turn, stop and get up on their own.

Supervised lunch programs will be offered for Rockin’ Robins at an additional cost, more information below…

DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

Ages 7 to 15 years old

This program is for skiers who are skiing most trails in a relatively dynamic parallel ski relationship. They will work on mountain skills such as bumps, trees, steeps and carving. This group needs to be self-sufficient; they will need to be able to get lunch on their own, go to the bathroom alone, and be capable of finding their parents on their own after program ends. They must be able to ride all lifts (including the Single Chair) without an adult or assistance. The Development Team is excellent preparation for the Freeski and Race Team programs and also provides a formal path to becoming a Junior Instructor, mountain guide or Ski Patroller.

FREESKI TEAM

Ages 10 to 18 years old

The Mad River Glen Freeski Team is designed for skiers ages 10 to 18 who want to improve their all-mountain skiing, bringing their talents to the next level. Team members will work daily on bumps, jumps, steeps, cliffs and trees in various snow conditions. The team also has a strong focus on mental skills development such as goal setting, teamwork, concentration, perseverance, and sportsmanship.

In order to ski with the Freeski program athletes have to be skiing in a dynamic parallel on ALL terrain. Athletes must be able to ski all of Mad River Glen’s terrain safely and confidently, they must also be able to self-arrest and recover their own gear after a fall. This group needs to be self-sufficient; they need to be able to get lunch on their own, go to the bathroom alone, and be able to find their parents on their own after training. Freeski Team athletes must be able to ride all the lifts (including the Single Chair) without an adult. Full-season training and travel to competitions will require athletes to be self-sufficient and possess the ability to manage their time effectively at home and while visiting other resorts.

NOT Included in the program fee: MRG season pass, MRSC membership, IFSA membership (required for competition), competition fees, lift tickets, lodging, and transportation costs related to competitions.

JUNIOR RACE PROGRAMS

Ages 6 and Up

The Mad River Glen Junior Race Program is a season-long racing program for children ages 6-18 run by the Mad River Glen Race Department. Our program is dedicated to providing quality training and competition experiences to skiers. We create athletes that are competitive at all junior levels of competition through high-quality coaching, focused training and a premier skiers’ playground. Our program is focused on creating an environment for healthy competition, sportsmanship and character development. Depending on the age, we offer a limited Saturday-only program or our full program, which gives the athlete access to over 70 days of organized training per year. The Junior Race Program, through the Race Department at Mad River Glen, provides the coaching and technical support necessary for junior athletes to achieve their personal best. Our group size is usually less than ten and we always have two coaches working with each group, therefore an excellent athlete-to-coach ratio. We believe that family support and participation through the Mad River Ski Club are essential to our program’s and each individual athlete’s success.
